Versapak Urine Sampling Kit (DTC2)

The Versapak Urine Sampling Kit (DTC2) is used for the safe storage of athletes’ urine samples, and the secure transport of those samples between the collection point and the laboratory. User-friendly, reasonably priced and totally secure, the DTC2 has been tried and tested both by independent security experts and by Anti-Doping officers around the world, who have used this kit since its creation in 1991.

Key components of DTC2

Screw capped 100ml capacity glass bottle (x2)

The two 100ml glass bottles have colour coded screw caps to identify A and B samples.

Tamper evident bottle labels show the A and B sample numbers (which are also embossed on the security canister). The labels are positioned on the sample bottles in a way which allows the total volume of urine to be checked (the minimum fill lines are normally set at 50ml for A samples and 25ml for B samples, however other provisions can be made).

When filled, the glass bottle is secured out of sight inside the HDPE security canister.

HDPE security canister (x2)

Embossed with the same unique numbering found on the glass bottles, and colour coded to identify A and B samples, the HDPE security canister is at the heart of the integrity of Versapak’s tamper evident equipment.  By placing the sample bottle inside a security canister, many extra layers of security and protection are provided.

The canister itself is manufactured from high density polyethalene (HDPE).  Unlike a glass bottle which can be breached and covertly repaired, the Versapak security canister cannot be breached and repaired without showing obvious signs of tampering.

The canister lid has an interference fit with a double bore seal - once closed, the canister cannot be opened without showing visible evidence.

An additional obstacle to tampering is created by the simple fact that the contents of the bottle are not visible.

These extra levels of security are why Anti-Doping organisations, governing bodies of sport and major event organisers trust Versapak Anti-Doping equipment to provide them with a secure means with which to transport samples from collection to laboratory.

Absorbent pad (x2)

In the unlikely event of the bottle breaking during transport, the absorbent pad will soak up any spilled urine.

Tamper evident outer bag (x1)

The Versapak Urine Sampling Kit is factory sealed in a high quality tamper-evident bag - this prevents tampering prior to sample collection, thus allowing both athlete and testing official to be confident that the equipment is in prime condition.  The tamper evident bag is numbered with the same code that is embossed onto the canister, and the bag itself is transparent so the kit components can be easily viewed and identified prior to opening.  A simple user guide is printed onto the outside of the bag.

Bottle extraction

It is impossible to extract the bottle from the security canister without causing extensive damage to the canister.  Bottle extraction should not be undertaken by the athlete or doping control officer, as this would render the sample invalid.

Bottle extraction should take place at the laboratory, and is aided by a Versapak Bottle Extraction Tool which is available free of charge to approved users.

More information

For further instructions on how to use the Versapak Urine Sampling Kit (DTC2) please see our User Guide section.

For partial sample storage, see the Versapak Partial Urine Sampling Kit (BPK2) and the Urine Collection Vessel (UCV).

In 2008 Pira International, an independent testing body, conducted extensive tests on the Versapak Urine Sampling Kit (DTC2) in order to establish the level of tamper evidence provided. In each test performed, the result was the same – whichever method was used to attempt a breach, the canister showed visible evidence of that breach.
